2016 has been another splendid year for bollywood music. What marked this year was the brilliance of few artists who ruled the roost throughout the year:

  • Pritam dolled out fantastic music in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Dangal
  • Amit Trivedi kept his brand of music alive in Fitoor, Udta Punjab and Dear Zindagi
  • Amitabh Bhattacharya penned heart-wrenching melodies in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil & Dangal
  • Arijit Singh continued to be the playback singer of choice for all music directors

2018 was an average year for fresh bollywood music as a lot of music directors relied on reviving/ remixing old hits to sell their albums. But, of all the craze and madness which ruled the radio stations through the year, there were a few songs which were melodious and soulful. While 2017 did not see the highs of previous years in terms of exceptional soundtracks, there were a wide variety of songs which did leave their mark on our hearts through their soulful compositions, heart-wrenching lyrics and soothing renditions.  Below are the highlights of bollywood music this year: Most composers roped in Arijit Singh to sing for them again this year and he did a splendid job across ALL the songs he offered to us in his enigmatic voice Amitabh Bhattacharya and Kausar Munir kept our hopes alive in the existence of meaningful lyrics in Bollywood Many old songs were remixed into their new age versions this year - some for the better and some for the worst Pritam was the only composer who offered musical hits across multiple albums this year - Jab Harry Met Sejal, Jagga Jasoos, Raabta and Tubelight It was disappointing to see limited opportunities for female playback singers to shine this year.
